Paid-To-Click (PTC) Sites : A Rising Threat To Traffic Exchanges?

To a large extent, there is a similarity between the services provided by Traffic Exchanges and Paid-To-Click (PTC) sites. They both feature adverts of clients/advertisers and get customers to click on/view these adverts.

The main difference however is that while with a Paid-To-Click (PTC) site, those who advertise are not in the main those who click on the adverts, with a traffic exchange, it is or is meant to be that those who advertise are also those who click on/view the adverts (of others).

Over time, traffic exchanges have evolved from the traditional manner of simply exchanging adverts by advertisers to offering various forms of incentives to view adverts. This has narrowed the differences between Traffic Exchanges and Paid-To-Click (PTC) sites.

You now have traffic exchanges like EasyHits4U offering $0.0003 per click/view of advert. Many others have followed suit. This has led to a number of entrants into the industry who are purely interested in clicking for pay and not really to view adverts.

The matter is not helped by the difficulty in getting effective results from adverts featured in these traffic exchanges, as some traditional marketers/advertisers have also as a result joined the bandwagon of now purely clicking for pay.

Confirming that this has become a real problem to traffic exchanges, you now see many traffic exchanges inserting a proviso that you must have a site registered and set for rotation before you are allowed to proceed and click adverts. In fact many now stipulate as high as 50% of your credits to be auto-assigned to your registered adverts.

Given this convergence in the roles of the Paid-To-Click (PTC) sites and the Traffic Exchanges, are many Traffic Exchanges not at the risk of extinction?

This is more so, given that Paid-To-Click (PTC) sites are known to offer relatively mouth-watering amounts to click and get paid. These Paid To-Click (PTC) sites offer between $0.001 to $0.02 per click of an advert. Some have even now begun to exceed the upper limit.

The eventual outcome (extinction of many traffic exchanges or not) may however be determined by the perception of advertisers.

Do advertisers believe that those who click at Paid-To-Click (PTC) sites really have purchasing power and are indeed committed to making actual purchases or do they believe they are merely clicking for pay? If the perception is that they are merely clicking for pay, then where are the Paid-To-Click (PTC) sites getting their advertising patronage from?

Another thing to consider is whether those who purely click for pay at the PTC sites are in the majority when compared to advertisers who have also joined the habit of clicking for pay.

This is relevant because if an advertiser who clicks for pay with a view to eventually using the proceeds to advertise his site considers that unlike in a traffic exchange, he will have to pay for his adverts, he will discount the proceeds he receives from clicking for pay by the amount he now has to pay to advertise his site and eventually realize that the amount received is not mouth-watering after all.

If he also comes to the realization of the amount of time he has to spend to make any significant income from these Paid-To-Click (PTC) sites relative to the opportunity cost of his time, he may jettison these PTC sites eventually.

Only time will tell which of the two will eventually outplay the other and we will keep watching.

    I guess there are always 2 sides to every story and when it comes to PTC v Traffic exchange it is no different. In my personal point of view I think both will always have their place.

    People all over the world are always looking for ways to get paid online and Paid to Click is by far one of the easiests ways to achieve this goal, how ever in time most people come to recognise that they can not give up their day job with their online earnings, thus they start researching the possibilities of getting their own referrals, a simple website later and then they are wondering how to get traffic.

    Enter the traffic exchange, a quick and easy way to get traffic to your website promoting your paid to click program. Obviously not the best way to make money online or the best way to get traffic to your site, but both are by far the easiest and whilst they both retain that ease of use factor, they will both have their place on the internet for us internet marketers.

    Damn, I should have posted that on my site lol, but I appreciate the back link :)

    @Thaimonz,

    Hi Thaimonz,

    Thanks for your detailed view on PTC sites.

    It makes sense that why would people be clicking for pennies if they do not want to make money online. It seems likely thus that if they see a good “make money offer”, they will hop for it.

    However, does it not also seem likely that those who can devote time clicking for pennies are also not likely to be willing to invest much even in a “make money online offer”? The PTC sites seem to recognize this and hence why they show their premium offers only to upgraded members. They rationalize that their sponsors/advertisers would wish that some offers be reserved exclusively for upgraded members who have shown capability and willingness to make payment and so more likely to subscribe to their offers. Well, that point is debatable.

    Thanks again and take care!

    Hi Dele! =)

    It is true that PTC has its ups and downs in advertising other website or blogs and even other PTC websites.

    From my experience in PTC, it is a cheap way in advertising your site because 1dollar only can give you already 500 to 1000 click views depending on what PTC site, most ptc sites gives 30 seconds up to 8 seconds of visibility on the website that is being shown then you can proceed to the other ads.

    For me the 30 seconds visibility view can give more attraction to the viewer because you will have that good amount of time on looking unto the presentation video or catching phrase titles that can attract you to stay put to the site.

    Giving more emphasis to PTC sites, this is saturated with people who wants to make money online because why would they be clicking sites if they don’t want to earn money online that is why it is also good to advertise on PTC sites are those money making products like software’s, tutorial sites, e-books or offers on how to make money online.

    PTC is also profitable if you did not know because I have a friend who’s name in the PTC World who is PinoyDeal has cash out one of the biggest in Clixsense that is amounting of 3,000dollars and in Neobux who is claiming he/she cash out an amount of 5,000dollars this is not impossible if you know to how to use the law of leverage on reffering people about this PTC sites.

    @John,

    Hi John,

    Actually, demographic and audience interest can also be chosen in the larger PTC’s such as Clixsense and Neobux. That however still does not guarantee the interest of the affiliate who clicks the ad.

    What it guarantees is the fact that the advertisers ad will only be looked at by affiliates from those geographic and interest areas he wants. No guarantee of interest on the part of the affiliate viewing the ad flows back.

    Thank you for your comment and have a nice Christmas and New Year Holidays.

    This is to you and all those who commented on this blog throughout 2011. Happy Holidays

    I think it really depends on the PTC you use, Im sure with some of the larger PTC’s such as neobux etc, members are there just to click, however sites like – brandfeista.com they have stricter guidelines and advertisers can choose demographic and audience interest, to make sure the viewers are actually interested in their ads.

    @SEO in Los Angeles,

    Yes, i think a lot of people just click to get paid but not really sure their numbers compared to those who click to get their adverts shown.

    Thanks for your comment.
